UPDF Accused of Land Grabbing in Gulu.

Locals in Ogwal-woo in Kanyagoga’ A’ sub ward in Kanyagoga Parish in Bar-dege division in Gulu Municipality are accusing the Uganda People Defense Force-UPDF of land grabbing.
The locals through their representative, Mr. Santo Okwera Comboni, accused leaders in Gulu 4th division barracks of illegally demarcating their boundary into the civilians’ land.
Okwera explains that on Thursday last week and Tuesday, heavily armed UPDF soldiers from the barracks, patrolled the disputed area, terrorizing the community while going on with the process of pegging.
The community alleges that, the army wants to extend their boundaries into their land by over 20 meters.
Alex Ojera one of the resident says the army has intruded on his land without his consent.
Bar-dege division LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Patrick Lumumba Oola, pledged to rally with the community members to defend their land.
However, Gulu 4th division army public relations officer (PRO), Maj. Telesphor Turyamanya rubbishes the accusation saying that the Barracks is only reclaiming their land which has been encroached on by the community.
