Amuru district last week impounded 18 trucks loaded with charcoal during an operation against illegal trading on tree products.
The trucks loaded with hundreds of charcoal bags were impounded from Pogo and Labala parishes all in Pabbo sub county.
James Brown Okao, the Amuru district forest officer said the operation started on Thursday last week on instructions from the district chief administrative officer, Martin Kiplangat.
The operation that is being conducted by the district leaders and security agencies is expected to continue according to the forest officer.
He revealed that the impounded charcoal will be auctioned anytime this week.
Amuru district has banned commercial activities on forest products. Recently Tom Anguzo the national forestry authority Northern regional supervisor said at least 40% forest coverage have been destroyed in Amuru.
Amuru just like the districts of Gulu, Pader, and Omoro have banned trading in forest products in a bid to preserve the environment.
