Amuru LC5 Appeals to South Sudan, Ugandan Gov`t to Intensify Security at Border.

Amuru district chairperson Michael Lakony is asking Uganda government and its counterpart in South Sudan to intensify security at the porous border.
Lakony said the district is under threat from notorious section of armed South Sudanese tribesmen who invade the areas of Bibia, Okidi and Abalokodi all in Attiak Sub County through the Unyama river bank.
He revealed that last week a group of about ten armed South Sudanese invaded areas of Attiak Sugar Works in Abalokodi saying that the area belongs to them.
The district chairperson on Thursday told government officials from Uganda and South Sudan that there are recurrent attacks on residents in Amuru by armed South Sudanese.
Various government and security officials from Uganda and South Sudan on Thursday converged at Elegu border in Amuru district for the substantial hand over of the One Stop Border Post constructed by government to the Uganda Revenue Authority.
Minister for Trade and Cooperatives Amelia Kyambade who graced the ceremony asked that security in Uganda and South Sudan be boosted and the communities in the two countries harmonized to ensure peaceful coexistence and peace.
The Under Secretary South Sudan In-charge of East African Affairs Mou Mou Attian Kuol who was also present at the function assured the district that he will engage with security officers in his country to ensure the issue is treated with high consideration and addressed immediately.
He noted that insecurity between the two does not only disrupt peace but also affects trade.
South Sudan and Uganda border lies in Amuru district stretching North West of Attiak Sub County to Adjumani district.
