Gulu School Director in Trouble for Denying Information to UBOS.

Lovis Odokonyero, the Director of Bright Valley Schools in Gulu is in trouble for refusing to give information to officials from Uganda Bureau of Statistics-UBOS.
Odokonyero reportedly turned down a request by the officials who wanted to document data of the school, staff, students and structures in the on-going Annual School Census.
The UBOS Publicity Officer, Joshua Mubulire said the director last week instructed his staffs not to attend to the field officers even when they presented identification documents.
Mubilire said Odokonyero equally ordered the staffs out of his office leaving them without options but to quit.
The publicist revealed on Monday during a sensitization meeting with stakeholders on the Annual School Census at the Gulu district council hall.
The Gulu Resident District Commissioner-RDC, Okot Santos Lapolo said he has instructed the director to avail the UBOS team with the needed information within two days or else face reprimand from his office.
Lapolo instructed the Gulu District Internal Security Officer-DISO to treat the matter diligently and engage the director to allow his staffs cooperate with UBOS field officer.
He said the exercise will help government for better planning in the education sector.
Also under criticism is the Vice Chancellor for Gulu University, George Ladaa Openjuru who the team said has been out of office for the last two weeks yet he is paramount in giving information concerning the institution.
UBOS publicist says his absence has made the field officers fail to get information from the institution.
But the Director denied the allegations when contacted on phone, he said the field officer did not meet the head teacher at school but wanted to get information from causal workers who were not mandated to talk.
Openjuru was reportedly abroad for an official duty by the time of filing this story.
UBOS in partnership with the Ministry of Education is currently conducting a countrywide School Census to record information of every learning institution. They include among others staffing, structures, learners enrolment and registration.
They say the exercise aims at proper planning for education and bettering performance.
