The Uganda People`s Defense Force-UPDF will recruit 2000 Local Defense Unit-LDU personnel’s from Northern Uganda and West Nile region.
This is part of the 13,000 recruits across the country. The recruits will be drawn from Gulu, Omoro, Amuru, Nwoya, Nebbi, Zombo, Pakwach, Arua, Koboko, Maracha, Yumbe, Moyo, and Adjumani districts.
The recruitment exercise in Northern Uganda will commence with Gulu and Omoro on 15th July at Pece War Memorial Stadium, Amuru and Nwoya on 17th and 18th at the district headquarters.
In West Nile recruitment commence from Nebbi, Zombo and Pakwach on 20th July, Arua on 22nd July, Koboko and Maracha on July 24th, Yumbe on 25th, Moyo on 27th and Adjumani on 29th July all at the district headquarters.
The Forth Division Infantry Army Barracks, Caesar Olweny says UPDF will later return to Gulu on July 30th and 31st to recruit more personnel if they do not attain the required numbers.
Applicants should be between 18 to 35 years with good health and possessing a Primary Leaving Examinations-PLE result slip or Ordinary Level certificates.
On Monday Lt Col Henry Obbo, the UPDF Land Forces spokesperson said the recruits will be under command and control of the UPDF.
He added that they will undergo four months training and deployed to serve in their respective districts of recruitment.
The new recruitments will add up to 23,500 LDUs across the country following presidential order in 2018 in a way to boost security in the country.
Rosette Byengoma, the Ministry of Defense Permanent Secretary recently said that each LDU will be paid 200,000 shillings per month.
