Lakoch Pa Oyoo who is currently testifying in the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Dominic Ongwen remembers Kony as a happy and joyous person before he started fighting in the Northern Uganda. He reveals that Kony turned rude and ferocious after he joined the rebellion.

The dual witness claims that he is a childhood friend of Joseph Kony since the mid 1980`s when he joined the Lord`s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel group fighting against the government of Uganda.

A dual status witness means someone testifying both as a witness and registered victim. Oyoo is also the first witness to testify against Dominic Ongwen without a protective measure and pseudo name.

Dominic Ongwen the alleged commander of the Sinia Brigade of the LRA is being tried for his alleged roles in the alleged attacks on the four IDP camps in Northern Uganda of Abok, Pajule, Lukodi and Odek. He is also facing 70 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Oyoo also confirmed to the ICC court on Monday during a cross examination by Abigail Bridgman the lawyer representing Dominic Ongwen that Kony tried to be a spirit medium ‘’Ajwaka’’. He would heal people of curses and work on command of the spirit but he later abandoned it when he started the LRA rebel group in the early 1980.

He also testified that two of his brothers were killed of gun shots during the LRA attack on Odek.

Joseph Kony is the leader of the LRA rebel group that was formed in the early 1980s. He is currently wanted by the ICC for war crimes, crimes against humanity and sexual crimes among others.
